History of Cottonwood (Utah)

Cottonwood (Salt Lake) is the area in the eastern Salt Lake Valley between Thirty-ninth and Sixty-second South and from Thirteenth East to the east foothills. It was an early settlement that expanded southeast in 1848 and was named for the luxuriant growth of cottonwood trees growing along the creek. It was the first active farming district outside of Salt Lake City proper to be farmed by the pioneers. Variant: Big Cottonwood.
